Comprising over 200 acres on the northern side of Nassau Sound, Amelia Island State Park offers up quite the fishing opportunity. Species that can be caught are whiting, speckled sea trout, jacks, flounder, redfish and tarpon.
The George Crady Fishing Bridge State Park, which is closed to vehicular traffic, still spans Nassau Sound, but now offers close to a mile of space to drop or cast a line. Redfish and speckled sea trout are around all year. Numbers peak for these two species in the Spring and Fall. You can also catch drum, jacks and whiting off the fishing pier. The largest flounder in the state was caught here. And, if you're after Tarpon, they come just after the mullet run in the fall. Sorry, no pets are allowed on the fishing bridge.
Baits that have been found to be popular include: mullet and shrimp.
Amelia Island State Park is one of the seven parks that make up what is collectively called Talbot Island State Parks.

Because the park is at the entrance to the Cumberland Sound, fishing can be outstanding here. It's definitely possible to catch Redfish, Sheepshead, Flounder, Spotted Sea Trout, Bluefish, Skate, saltwater catfish, smaller Sharks, and even Tarpon. If you go down to the pier in the State Park, then you might even hook into Atlantic Spadefish, Pompano and Whiting.
There's lots to do here, including daily tours of the Fort, shelling on the beach, self guided nature trails (this one is 6 miles long), and fishing from the shore or the fishing pier. You can roam through the Visitor's Center and then have a picnic.
There are two campgrounds in the state park, with showers, hot water, and restroom facilities.
