Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Joe and Alexia chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep-sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The anglers had a great day on the water and fun catching Bonitas with the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team, Captain Zsak, and mate, Dave. We started the morning around 7:20 am and left the marina heading out of Port Everglades inlet with flat, calm seas and a little breeze.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were trolling in 100 feet of water where we put our lines in the water. We were fishing with two deep planner lines with sea witches and four surface lures. The deep planner lines get down about 50 feet. Our first bite came early on, and after Joe caught the fish, he wired the Bonita to the boat and it went right into the kill box. Alexia was up next, and she caught a Barracuda. She reeled and wired the Barracuda to the side of the boat. The hooks were removed and the Barracuda was returned to the seas. We continued catching Bonitas one after another with a couple of double and triple headers.

Next, we decided to try catching some Snappers. The 1st mate rigged up a Grouper bait - he took a Bonita and he butterflied the bait with a drop lead. We also fished a long leader for Snappers, which is using cut bait with circle hooks. We ended up catching a Vermilion Snapper and a Yellow-Eye Snapper.

It was time to head back to the dock after a killer day on the water. The happy anglers retired into the a/c salon watching the plasma TV and enjoying the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Charles and his two sons, Chuck and Colin, from New Jersey chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep-sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain Zsak and mate, Dave, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team. We had nice weather today with clear skies and calm seas.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were trolling in 100 feet of water. Our spread of baits consisted of a few deep trolling baits and four surface baits. I started working the area to the southeast of Fort Lauderdale, and we got bites early on the long deep planner line. One of the boys jumped on the reel and started fighting the fish. He got the fish up to the back of the boat and the mate wired the Kingfish, gaffed it along the transom and put the Kingfish in the fish box.

We continued trolling to the south hooking another group of Kingfish, getting bites on the silver and blue lures as well as the pink and white lures. After a few double headers, the numbers in the box were growing. I went over a few areas where the depth sounder marked a school of fish, and as we went over that school, we hooked a couple of Tunas on the surface lines. The guys were having a good time and were ready to try for something bigger.

I went out to 300 feet of water with a knot of north current in greenish blue water - it was the ideal condition. We set out two Kingfish heads and one Bonita. After about 30 minutes, we had a big one eating the Bonita. With the sound of the drag ripping off, we had a huge bite and the fish was on. The guys started fighting this fish and took turns on the battle. After this Shark took 4 big runs, these guys realized it was just getting started. The fight lasted for 45 minutes, and we had the Hammerhead Shark to the back of the boat. We carefully removed the hook and released this awesome fish.

Zsak

Ken McCall and his friends from Kendall, Florida chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain JB and mate, Dave, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water, which we exclusively have here in Fort Lauderdale, due to our extreme drop off. The further north you go, the further the drop off swings off shore.

We started off trolling with two plainers down on spider line, a #6 and a #8, one with a pink and blue sea witch and the other with a chartreuse sea witch, both with double hooked Bonito strips. We trolled the reefs north of Fort Lauderdale in search of bait fish. I headed towards some of our 34 artificial wrecks that are located in Fort Lauderdale, ranging in 520 ft. of water to 74 ft. in search of bait fish because when you find the bait fish the predators will not be too far behind. The anglers took turns reeling in their catches of Kingfish and Bonitos

I can see a couple of birds working east, so as we trolled toward the birds, the right rigger came down & we had a nice Mahi Mahi. The angler reeled the Mahi to the side of the boat where our mate gaffed it and put it in the fish box.

I decided to do some Shark fishing so I put out three Shark baits which were placed on the surface, midrange and bottom. It did not take long for the bite to be hooked up - the line screamed off the 80 International Reel. Chris was the angler, and he reeled in a 72” Hammerhead Shark. Dave wired the Shark to the side of the boat, pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.

Zsak

Roc, Alex, Brent and Curt chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain Zsak and mate, Russ, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team. We had nice weather and temperatures in the low 80’s and nice blue water with scattered weeds.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water, which we exclusively have here in Fort Lauderdale, due to Fort Lauderdale’s extreme drop off. The further north you go, the further the drop off swings off shore.

We started the morning trolling south of Fort Lauderdale in 100 feet of water with two deep lines with baited sea witches and four surface ballyhoo baits. Soon as we had lines in the water we started catching fish. There was a school of King Mackerel at the South end of the inlet in Fort Lauderdale. Once we marked the area we wanted to fish I went back and forth over the school and we steadily were getting King bites mostly on the deep planner lines with a few outrigger bites. We did catch a full grown Mutton Snapper weighing 8 pounds trolling when we made a shallow swing on the reef. A lot of times the Snappers will hang on the top side of the reef. The guys had a blast catching one after another and within the first hour and a half of the trip we caught 8 King Mackerel and a handful on Bonita and one Snapper. We were trolling south and with a strong northerly current only making 4.5 knots over ground. As I was looking out I saw a Hammerhead shark on the surface. I yelled down to clear the trolling spread and get a bloody Bonita ready to pitch to the shark. The 1st mate got the bait in the water and it didn't take long before the Hammerhead shark ate the bait. Curt was the angler and he starting fighting the shark. This shark pulled a lot of drag making big runs. After a good battle he got the fish up alongside the boat and we safely released the Hammerhead. Now it was time to kite fish so we put two kites up in the air and fished live Goggeleye baits. Kites are a great way to live bait fish and offers the best presentation. We missed a King on the kite and caught a King out of the kite and the last fish we caught was a Black Fin Tuna which ate the live bait and we caught him on light tackle. After a great day on the water fishing it was time to head back to the dock.

With 8 Kingfish, 1 Mutton, 3 Bonitas, 1 Tuna and a Hammer Head Shark, it was time to head back to the dock.

Zsak

Shawn and Celesse from Deerfield Beach chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain JB and mate, Russ, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team.

We started trolling north of the Fort Lauderdale sea buoy with two #8 planners, one with a pink and blue sea and the other with a blue and white sea witch, both had double hooked Bonito strips in front. For surface baits we went with 3 swimming Ballyhoos and 1 Bonito strip. We trolled the reef drop off looking for bait fish on the depth recorder and flying fish on the surface. We had a couple of swings and misses on the surface baits.

I headed towards one of my favorite artificial wrecks, which is a tug boat that sits in 154 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale. It’s good to have local knowledge of the wrecks in our area. Right long!! Mahi Mahi hooked up!! Shawn was the angler and reeled in a nice Mahi Mahi. As we circled the wreck again, the planner rod tripped, line exiting the reel and after a 15 minute battle, Celesse reeled the Kingfish to the side of the boat. Russ gaffed the 22 lb. Kingfish and welcomed him aboard the Happy Day Today.

There was a color change forming with a couple of birds working the area east of Fort Lauderdale. As we trolled the color change, the right rigger came down – Mahi Mahi! Shawn was the angler on this fish – this Mahi Mahi was bigger than the first Shawn caught and put on a good fighting show. Shawn brought the Mahi weighing 20 lbs. to the side of the boat and Russ put the fish in the fish box.

With a total of four Kingfish, 2 Bonitos and two Mahi Mahi’s, it was time to head back to the dock. The happy anglers retired into the a/c salon watching the plasma TV and enjoying the relaxing trip back to the dock at:
